H05V-K vs H07V-K: EN 50525 Wire Selection Guide
H05V-K and H07V-K are harmonised European single-core PVC insulated wires. They share a 70 °C temperature rating, but they are not interchangeable when voltage, conductor size or certification scope changes.
Quick comparison
| Item | H05V-K | H07V-K |
|---|---|---|
| Voltage rating | 300/500 V | 450/750 V |
| Temperature rating | 70 °C | 70 °C |
| Insulation | PVC | PVC |
| Conductor | Flexible copper | Flexible copper |
| VDE certificate scope | 1 × 0.5–1.0 mm² | 1 × 1.5–35 mm² |
Voltage and size are the first checks
H05V-K is commonly selected for control, lighting and appliance wiring at 300/500 V. H07V-K is selected for higher-voltage and larger conductor applications at 450/750 V. Confirm both the voltage rating and the required conductor size because the VDE certificate scope is size-specific.

VDE certificate 40028605
The VDE Marks Approval No. 40028605 covers H05V-K 1 × 0.5–1.0 mm² and H07V-K 1 × 1.5–35 mm². The certificate references DIN EN 50525-2-31 (VDE 0285-525-2-31):2012-01 and was updated on 29 January 2024. Verify that the finished product uses a covered construction and that the marking and documentation match the order.

Selection checklist
- Confirm the required voltage level.
- Confirm the conductor size in mm².
- Check the required colour and marking.
- Check the minimum bending and routing requirements.
- Confirm the applicable certificate scope.
- Confirm cut length, packaging and destination.
FAQ
Can H05V-K replace H07V-K?
Only when the voltage rating, conductor size, certificate scope and application requirements are all satisfied. They are separate harmonised designs.
Does the VDE certificate cover all sizes?
The certificate lists the covered sizes. H05V-K is shown as 0.5–1.0 mm² and H07V-K as 1.5–35 mm².
