UL PV Wire vs TUV PV Wire: UL 4703, EN 50618 and IEC 62930

UL PV wire and TUV PV wire are often discussed together because both are used in solar and energy-storage projects, but they follow different standards and certification routes. The correct choice depends on the project location, the end-product approval and the documentation required by the buyer or authority.

This guide compares UL 4703, EN 50618, IEC 62930 and 2 PfG 1169 using the certificate and catalogue data published for the Xinya range. For a deeper stand-alone standards comparison, see the existing IEC 62930 vs 2 PfG 1169 vs EN 50618 guide.

The table uses the published catalogue data. Confirm the exact construction and certificate scope for the size, colour and insulation system being purchased.

What UL 4703 covers

UL 4703 is the UL standard for photovoltaic wire. In this catalogue, the UL 4703 series is supported by UL Recognized File No. E331816. The published data provides 600 V construction rows. The source catalogue also identifies 1000 V and 2000 V series, but those rows are not tabulated in the supplied data.

UL Recognized File No. E170689 for UL 758 AWM does not automatically cover UL 4703 photovoltaic wire. Use the photovoltaic family page and the exact product page when reviewing the approval scope. See the existing UL 4703 600 V, 1000 V and 2000 V guide.

What EN 50618 covers

EN 50618 is a European standard for photovoltaic cable. The manufacturer catalogue cites Certificate No. R 50334045 and publishes a 1.0/1.0 kV AC and 1.5 kV DC rating from -40 °C to +90 °C.

If the project specification names EN 50618, link the quotation and inspection documents to that standard. Do not substitute an IEC 62930 or 2 PfG 1169 certificate simply because the cable construction looks similar.

What IEC 62930 covers

IEC 62930 is an international standard for photovoltaic cable. The catalogue cites Certificate No. R 50484553 and B 118907 0001 Rev. 01, with AC 1.0/1.0 kV, DC 1.5 kV and a -40 °C to +90 °C rating.

This route is commonly requested when an international project or an overseas end customer specifies IEC 62930 rather than EN 50618. Open the IEC 62930 PV wire page to review the available construction data.

What 2 PfG 1169 covers

2 PfG 1169 is a TUV specification used for photovoltaic cable. The catalogue cites Certificate No. T 50601863 01 with AC 0.6/1 kV, DC 1.8 kV and a -40 °C to +90 °C rating.

The voltage notation is not interchangeable with EN 50618 or IEC 62930. Confirm the exact standard and rating that the end-product approval or local authority requires.

How to choose between UL and TUV PV wire

  • Identify the standard named in the project specification or end-product approval.
  • Confirm the required voltage, current and temperature rating.
  • Check the exact conductor size, insulation system and jacket construction.
  • Confirm the certificate number and the construction covered by that certificate.
  • Review sunlight, moisture, UV, ozone and mechanical exposure requirements.
  • Confirm the documentation package required for shipment and inspection.

Certification documentation

Certification files are held in the manufacturer name. Request the issued certificate, test report or catalogue record for the exact construction. The compliance page lists the available certification records, and the request a quote form can be used to ask for a project-specific document package.

FAQ

Is UL PV wire the same as TUV PV wire?

No. UL 4703 is a UL standard, while EN 50618, IEC 62930 and 2 PfG 1169 are separate TUV routes. The standards, certificate references and project documentation requirements differ.

Can I use a TUV PV wire for a UL project?

Only if the project specification and end-product approval accept the applicable TUV standard or certificate. Confirm the requirement in writing before selecting the cable.

What should I send for a PV wire quotation?

Send the standard, voltage, size, colour, length, destination and required certificate package. If the cable is part of a harness or assembly, include the drawing or BOM.

Review the PV cable range: use the UL PV wire family, the TUV PV wire family or the full wire catalogue.

600 V versus 1000 V and 2000 V

The 600 V table lists 12, 10 and 8 AWG constructions with conductor diameter, insulation thickness, jacket thickness, overall diameter and maximum conductor resistance. For 1000 V or 2000 V projects, ask for the current construction table and confirm which conductor sizes, insulation thicknesses and markings apply. Do not assume that the 600 V dimensions can be scaled or reused.

Selection checklist

  1. Confirm system voltage and whether the applicable table is 600 V, 1000 V or 2000 V.
  2. Confirm AWG and conductor stranding.
  3. Confirm dry and wet temperature conditions.
  4. Confirm UV, ozone and flame requirements.
  5. Confirm colour, marking and cut length.
  6. Confirm the exact UL file scope and current document.

Questions & answers

Frequently asked questions

Certifications, lead time, payment, shipping and MOQ — the points buyers ask about most often. If something is still unclear, send us your requirement and we will answer directly. See the full FAQ →

01 Are you a manufacturer or a trading company?

We are a wire harness manufacturer — cutting, stripping, crimping, sealing and testing are all carried out in-house at our Suzhou plant. We are also an authorised distributor of Xinya brand electronic wire, so you can source both the wire and the finished harness from one supplier.

02 What certifications do your electronic wires have?

Our electronic wires carry UL, VDE, PSE and CE approvals, together with RoHS and REACH compliance for the European market; TUV approvals are available for PV and renewable-energy wire. Certificates and test reports are issued by the manufacturer and can be supplied with your quotation on request.

03 How long is the lead time?

For electronic wire, popular styles such as UL1007, UL1015, UL1061 and UL1569 are normally available quickly; other styles, non-standard colours and cut lengths usually take around 7 days. Wire harnesses are made to order, so the schedule depends on your drawing, connector availability and quantity — we confirm it in the quotation.

04 What are your payment terms?

We commonly accept T/T (telegraphic transfer), PayPal and Western Union. Typically a 30% deposit is required before production, with the balance paid before shipment.

05 How do you ship the goods?

Samples and small orders are shipped by international express (DHL, FedEx, UPS, TNT) or by air freight. Larger orders normally go by sea to reduce freight cost. We can quote EXW, FOB, CIF or door-to-door terms and will recommend the option that best fits your budget and delivery date.

06 Do you have a minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

We keep a low MOQ to support your business. Generally the MOQ is 1 piece for standard models, although it may vary slightly for customised products. Small trial orders are welcome.

07 Can you build harnesses to our own drawing or sample?

Yes. We build to print and build to sample — send us a 2D drawing, a BOM, connector part numbers or even a photo of the part in use, and we will assemble, test and quote accordingly.

08 Can I get a sample before placing a bulk order?

Yes. We are happy to build a prototype first so that you can approve the fit, crimp and finish before committing to volume. Send the drawing and the target quantity and we will quote sample cost and lead time.

09 What information do you need to give a quotation?

For wire: the style or UL number, AWG, voltage and temperature rating, insulation, conductor, colour and length. For harnesses: the drawing or BOM, connector brand and part number, terminal and housing type, wire specification, cut length and tolerance, sleeving or tubing, label and packaging requirements, quantity and destination. If anything is unclear we will ask — or propose a construction for you.

10 Do you support OEM / ODM and private labelling?

Yes. We work with customer-specified connectors and brands as well as JST, Molex and HongXing, and can add printed markers, custom labels, printed bags and your own carton artwork for OEM and ODM projects.

11 How do you control quality?

Every order goes through incoming wire inspection, cutting and stripping checks, crimp height and terminal pull-force testing, 100% continuity and open-and-short testing, and a final dimensional and visual inspection. Inspection records can be supplied with the shipment when your project requires them.

12 Can you help with wire and connector selection?

Yes — our engineers help match wire gauge, insulation and temperature rating to your current, voltage and working environment, and select a terminal and housing combination that crimps reliably. Describe the application or send a sample and we will propose a construction.

13 Can you supply cut lengths and custom packaging?

Yes. Wire can be supplied in cut lengths, coils or spools, with PE bags, cartons, pallets and printed labels arranged to suit your warehouse or production line.

14 Do you ship worldwide, and can I visit the factory?

We ship worldwide, with regular shipments to Europe, North America, South-East Asia, the Middle East and Australia. You are welcome to visit our plant in Suzhou, and you can see our production lines in the factory videos on this site.

15 What happens if there is a quality problem after delivery?

Contact us with the order or batch number and photos of the issue. We will check it against our production and inspection records and, where the fault is confirmed on our side, arrange replacement or credit.
