Drag Chain Harness | Robot Cable Manufacturer
Continuous-flex drag chain and robot harnesses on UL shielded multi-conductor cable: terminated shields, defined bend radii and millions of flex cycles.
Robotics & Drag-Chain Harness: what we build
A cable that survives a drag chain is a system, not a wire. The conductor has to be fine-stranded enough to bend without work-hardening, the jacket has to resist the abrasion of the chain, and the shield has to be terminated so that it does not fatigue at the point where it stops being a cable and becomes a connection.
Most field failures in continuous-flex applications happen in the last 100 mm — at the connector, the strain relief or the point where the shield was soldered. We build the termination so the transition from moving to fixed is deliberate: a defined strain-relief length, a shield termination that does not carry bending load, and a backshell that holds the cable’s bend radius rather than letting it kink.
The assemblies are built on the UL shielded multi-conductor lines in this catalogue, from UL20276 at 30 V for signal-only runs up to UL2586 at 600 V, 105 °C where the axis carries power as well.
How we build it
- Fine-stranded conductors selected for the cycle count the axis actually runs
- Shield terminated to a drain lead or backshell, never left carrying bending load
- Strain-relief lengths set from the chain geometry, not from habit
- Encoder, bus and power conductors in one assembly where the routing allows
- Moulded or booted backshells that hold the minimum bend radius
- Continuity and shield integrity verified on every assembly before packing
Wire we build this harness on
Every conductor is Xinya wire from this site's own catalogue, so the style inside the harness can be traced to a published data sheet. These are the lines most often specified for this application:
- UL2587 flexible shielded multi-conductor cable, 90 °C
- UL20549 flexible shielded multi-conductor cable, TPU jacket
- UL20276 flexible shielded multi-conductor cable
- UL2586 flexible shielded multi-conductor cable, 600 V
- UL2517 flexible shielded multi-conductor cable
- UL20626 TPE multi-conductor cable, 30–600 V
If your drawing names a style that is not listed here, ask — the catalogue published on this site is a subset of what the factory runs, and we can quote against a style number as easily as against a description.
How to get a quotation
Send the drawing, the sample, a photograph with a scale in shot, or a table of from-to points. Our reply names the wire style, the connector series, the crimp specification, the sleeving and the test method, so your engineers can approve the part rather than interpret a description. Nothing on this site carries a price: every harness is quoted against the specification you provide.
